I found this illustration of the "Itinerant Magic Lantern Man" in college in a class about Film History and Theory. He was the first true film nomad, or as we often refer to ourselves as "carnies with teeth."
In essence, he was the first taste the world had of the idea of a moving image on screen. He would bring his magic lantern, which was something akin to a projector and use it to put images onto a large screen.
